Editorial

Ara fa cinquanta anys que va morir Carles Riba. Pere Quart, en un homenatge po�tic l�cid i no mancat d’ironia en relaci� amb l’entorn cultural del poeta, expressava la sensaci� de desemparament que s’havia apoderat dels ambients culturals i literaris catalans. �I, tot seguit, la cendra�: fins i tot per als poemes? Per a tota aquella obra? Era un moment en qu� Riba, per la seva actitud c�vica, per la seva v�lua enorme com a intel�lectual, per la seva saviesa, per la qualitat de la seva poesia, representava la solidesa d’una cultura. En certa manera, la resumia tota, des del tracte directe i profund amb el m�n cl�ssic fins a la punta de diamant de la recerca po�tica. Riba era l’intel�lectual de refer�ncia, una figura essencial en el panorama cultural de la postguerra. La seva significaci� p�blica era de signe molt diferent de la de Verdaguer, o de la de Sagarra o, fins i tot, de la de Maragall. O de la que assoliria Salvador Espriu en la d�cada dels seixanta. La seva figura era pr�xima a all� que havia representat Pompeu Fabra, de qui havia recollit l’her�ncia com a seny ordenador de l’idioma, amb l’afegit que Riba, a m�s, era un creador, un poeta. Menys popular, sens dubte, que molts dels esmentats, per� garantia de comprom�s i de rigor.

Fa cinquanta anys. Indubtablement, Riba, en els cercles intel�lectuals, encara �s una figura respectada. Tan respectada, dir�em, com negligida. El fet mateix que res no ens hagi recordat el cinquantenari de la seva mort, llevat d’una minsa pres�ncia en un acte oficial el dia de Sant Jordi, resulta significatiu. Especialment en un pa�s com el nostre que s’embadaleix amb les commemoracions.

ABSTRACT: The article reports on the discovery of an unknown manuscript of a seventeenth century Catalan short farce. The play had been edited by Josep Maria Sala Valldaura in 2007 through the publishing company Barcino. Sala Valldaura’s edition was based on the two copies in existance at the time: the complete one held in the Biblioteca Nacional of Madrid and an incomplete one held in the Institut del Teatre of Barcelona.  The new manuscript, included in the Fons Renart of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, contains the whole text and also incorporates two unpublished songs as a novelty. These songs are included in the present article since they allow us to render an interpretation of the play from new perspectives.

 

 La primera recepci� de l’haiku en la literatura catalana

ABSTRACT: This article focuses on the reception of the haiku, Japanese briefest form of lyrical poetry, in early 20th century Catalan literature. This reception first took place in the pages of the newspaper La Veu de Catalunya: an article published by Josep Carner in 1906 offered both an explanation of the form and a sample of translations, relying on a French source (Paul-Louis Couchoud), and it was immediately commented by Eugeni d’Ors. A second wave of interest came from France around 1920: Couchoud’s article was partially translated in the same newspaper, while the literary views about the haiku held by Carner and Ors may have had an influence both on the poetry and the comments of several other poets, namely Josep Maria Junoy, Alfons Maseras, Joan Salvat-Papasseit, Josep Maria L�pez-Pic�, Josep Maria Mill�s-Raurell, and Joan Alcover.

ABSTRACT:This is a reply to some of the objections raised by Josep Murgades in his review of the author’s book Llengua, naci� i digl�ssia published in an earlier issue of Els Marges. More specifically, the author insists on the validity and usefulness of the concept of diglossia, defends his use of the term �Catalanization� to refer to the historical assimilation of Castilianisms by the Catalan language, reasserts his conviction that the expansion of diglossia was an endogenous process, rejects Murgades’ suggested reason for the fact that in Catalonia there was diglossia instead of language shift, and justifies his contention that it is unlikely that an evidence-backed explanation will ever be found for it.
